CRC 1287

In our Collaborative Research Centre CRC1287 ‘Limits of Variability in Language’, we are dedicated to identifying and understanding the source of the limits that constrain linguistic variability, focusing on cognitive, computational and grammatical factors. We are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – Project ID 31763348.
We are a team of over 50 researchers at different stages of their academic careers and from different disciplines, including Linguistics, Psychology and Romance, German and Slavic Studies, working on 17 research projects and three service projects.
Our research projects are divided into two clusters. Cluster B focuses on the limits of variability in language processing, and Cluster C focuses on the limits of variability in grammatical systems. In addition, the CRC1287 includes a transfer project working at the interface between computational linguistics and media communication.
The CRC1287 ‘Limits of Variability in Language’ has been running since 2017, and it’s currently at the end of its second funding phase.
