CRC 1287

In our Collaborative Research Centre CRC1287 ‘Limits of Variability in Language’, we are dedicated to identifying and understanding the source of the limits that constrain linguistic variability, focusing on cognitive, computational and grammatical factors. We are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) - Project-ID 31763348.
We are a team of over 50 researchers at different stages of their academic careers and from different disciplines, including Linguistics, Psychology and Romance, German and Slavic Studies, working on 15 research projects and six special projects.
Our research projects are divided into three clusters. Cluster B focuses on the limits of variability in language processing and development, Cluster C focuses on the limits of hidden variability in grammatical systems and language acquisition, and Cluster D focuses on the limits of variability in language use and communication. In addition, the CRC1287 includes two transfer projects (T01 and T02), one science communication project (WiKo) and three service projects (Z, Q and MGK).
The CRC1287 ‘Limits of Variability in Language’ has been running since 2017, and it’s currently its third (and final) funding phase.
