Potsdam Phonotactics Workshop: Variability and its Limits

As part of a large-scale project on „Limits of Variability in Language“ at the University of Potsdam in Germany, two sub-projects led by Natalie Boll-Avetisyan and Adamantios Gafos are investigating phonotactics. Specifically, we aim to better understand how experience influences phonotactic acquisition and processing, leading to variability across individuals and across languages, and to what extent experience-independent biases might place a limit on this variability.

The main objective of our workshop is to discuss phonological theories, models and experimental findings, by gathering insights from researchers with different perspectives in the field. Therefore, we invite researchers specialized in experimental linguistics (i.e. acquisition in infancy, language processes and learnability in adulthood), typology, and corpus data.
